Marc Casado: Barcelona midfielder linked with Newcastle United and Aston Villa

Marc Casado, a 22-year-old Barcelona midfielder, is reportedly set to leave the club during the summer transfer window, with Newcastle United and Aston Villa among the Premier League sides linked to him, according to reports on 25 August 2026. He was omitted from Barcelona’s matchday squad for their LaLiga 2026-27 opener against Elche.

Mundo Deportivo reported that several English clubs have approached Casado, with Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and Brighton also showing interest alongside Newcastle and Villa. The player is said to be valued at around €30-40 million. Casado is primarily a defensive midfielder but can operate in central midfield and at right-back. Reports suggest a move could offer him regular first-team football and, in the case of Aston Villa, UEFA Champions League exposure.

Born in Barcelona, Casado joined La Masia at 13 in 2016 and progressed through Barcelona’s academy, captaining both the Juvenil A and Barça Atlètic sides. His development at the club saw him rise from youth ranks into the senior setup.

Casado made his senior debut for Barcelona in 2022 in a Champions League match against Viktoria Plzeň and recorded his LaLiga debut in 2024 against Atlético Madrid at the Estadio Metropolitano. Across his Barcelona career to date he has 49 LaLiga appearances with one goal and four assists, and 19 Champions League appearances with two assists.
