Marquinhos rescues PSG 2-2 at Lille while Bayern rout Stuttgart 5-1

Paris Saint-Germain were held to a 2-2 draw at Lille on Friday when defender Marquinhos scored deep into stoppage time to level the game, while Bayern Munich opened their Bundesliga campaign with a 5-1 victory over Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena.

PSG, the Ligue 1 champions, had started the weekend on the back foot after being held by Rennes in the opening round and fell behind at Lille in the 21st minute when Hákon Haraldsson reacted to a reverse pass from Olivier Giroud and curled a shot past Matvei Safonov.

Lille’s defence packed the middle and restricted PSG’s chances, and the visitors appeared to have lost the game when Dilane Bakwa added a goal in the 84th minute before the late turnaround.

Vitinha pulled PSG level with a curled strike into the top-left corner in the first minute of stoppage time, and the Portuguese midfielder then supplied the cross for Marquinhos to head home four minutes later to complete the comeback.

Bayern produced a dominant second-half display to beat Stuttgart 5-1, with goals from Dayot Upamecano, Michael Olise, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Luis Díaz among the scoring for the hosts, who also missed several other chances.

Stuttgart’s Josha Vagnoman had a mixed evening, scoring at both ends after briefly equalising early in the second half, while Milan’s match ended 2-0 as Gonçalo Ramos scored his first Serie A goal with a drive from a tight angle at the San Siro before a late own goal from Redouane Halhal settled the contest.

Milan paid tribute to former captain Franco Baresi before kick-off in their first home game since his death; the club had spent €74m to sign Ramos from PSG and he said: "The most important thing isn’t my goal, it’s the win," adding, "I should have scored more than one goal tonight." Racing Santander beat Elche 3-2 for their first win since returning to the Spanish top flight, and Alavés defeated Villarreal 1-0.

The win at the Allianz Arena extended Bayern’s unbeaten run and came in their first match of the new campaign; Bayern had won last season’s Bundesliga title by 16 points, scoring a record 122 goals.
