Olympique de Marseille faced Atlético Madrid at the Orange Vélodrome in Marseille, France in a pre-season friendly that kicked off at 9 p.m. IST on Friday, August 13.

Atlético Madrid had resumed full training on Wednesday after a trip to South Korea that combined celebrations and hype and included new signing Kang-In Lee, but their weekend ended with a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City. Before the South Korea trip Atlético had competed in Sweden, where Manchester United defeated them in the Snapdragon Cup. In their first preseason outing, Simeone’s side beat Getafe 4-1 "behind a curtain."
