Martínez brace earns Inter a 2-2 comeback draw at Roma
Lautaro Martínez scored twice as Inter Milan recovered from a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 with Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in a Serie A match on 19 September 2026.
Roma led 2-0 at half-time thanks to Manu Koné’s brace, and both clubs paid tribute before kick-off following the announcement earlier in the day of the death of Sandro Mazzola at the age of 83; Inter wore black armbands. The result halted a run in which the fixture had been a meeting of the last two sides with 100% records, and came three days after Inter had overturned a 2-0 deficit to beat Udinese 5-3 on Monday.
Roma opened swiftly when Koné adjusted his body to rifle home Nahuel Molina’s knockdown inside the opening six minutes, and Paulo Dybala twice threatened to extend the lead in the first half. Marcus Thuram had a clear chance in the 26th minute but fired straight at goalkeeper Mile Svilar, and a Curtis Jones pass presented Alessandro Bastoni with an opportunity seven minutes later that struck the post. Koné then appeared to tuck in from close range on 37 minutes; the assistant flagged but, after a VAR review, referee Davide Massa awarded the goal and it was recorded as the 25-year-old’s sixth Serie A goal.
Inter reduced the deficit less than a minute after half-time when Martínez converted a scuffed finish from Thuram’s pull-back that crept into the side-netting of Svilar’s far post. Late in the game a scramble saw Svilar make a sharp stop and Martínez head against the bar, but Inter recycled possession and Martínez controlled with his thigh before arrowing a finish beyond the Serb to complete the comeback and level the match at 2-2.
Paris FC extended their unbeaten Ligue 1 start with a 2-1 win over Strasbourg in a match marred by abusive chants aimed at former manager Liam Rosenior; the game was halted in the second half and there were confrontations after the final whistle. Ilan Kebbal scored on 18 minutes and Pablo Pagis added a goal 12 minutes into the second half to give the capital club their third victory of the campaign, while Strasbourg grabbed a late own goal from Moustapha Mbow.
Maximilian Beier’s 70th-minute strike secured Borussia Dortmund a 1-0 win at Stuttgart as he tapped in from Jobe Bellingham’s low cross, and Beier said: "Sounds good to me," to Sky Germany. Freiburg were held 2-2 at Eintracht Frankfurt after Younes Ebnoutalib opened the scoring 10 minutes in, Derry Scherhant levelled before Jonathan Burkardt restored Frankfurt’s lead, and Scherhant then created a second for Yuito Suzuki to earn Freiburg a point; Bayern Munich’s 7-0 win over Union Berlin on Friday had left them top overnight.
Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick and set up another in Trabzonspor’s 4-0 win over Galatasaray, opening the scoring in the fourth minute and providing Noah Saviolo’s 39th-minute strike. Salah added a third in the 44th minute from a Franculino Dju assist and completed his hat-trick in the 80th minute with a long run finished with a side-foot from inside the box; Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk was sent to the stands in the 71st minute and Lesley Ugochukwu received a red card in the 87th. The result left Trabzonspor fifth on 10 points from six games, three points behind Galatasaray.
Maximilian Beier’s winner moved Borussia Dortmund to the top of the early Bundesliga table for the first time since May 2023, a span of 1,212 days since they last occupied the summit.
