Borussia Dortmund winger Mathis Albert has been identified as a transfer target for Arsenal and Liverpool in reports published on November 1, 2026, with other top clubs also named as suitors. The 17-year-old USMNT international has made senior and reserve appearances for Dortmund this season and is drawing interest ahead of the summer window.

Borussia Dortmund, a club noted in the report for producing players such as Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland, have a young prospect in Albert who is reportedly valued at approximately £16.7 million. Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked, while Albert’s contract runs until 2027 and Dortmund are said to be reluctant to sell him cheaply.

Albert was born on May 21, 2009, in Greenville, South Carolina; his father is French and his mother is an American of German descent. He began his development at the LA Galaxy academy, trained with the club’s reserve team and moved to Borussia Dortmund’s youth setup in 2024.

Primarily deployed on the left wing, Albert can also play on the right flank and operate as a second striker; the report says he caught Niko Kovač’s eye with his pace, dribbling and willingness to take on defenders. Those attributes have helped accelerate his progression through Dortmund’s youth and reserve ranks.

At club level he made 10 appearances for Dortmund’s reserve side last season, scoring once in the Regionalliga, and was named in Borussia Dortmund’s squad for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. He did not play in that tournament but was the youngest player listed, at 16 years and 27 days.

Albert made his Bundesliga debut on April 26, 2026, coming off the bench in Borussia Dortmund’s 4-0 win over SC Freiburg at 16 years and 340 days, becoming the youngest American to appear in the German top flight and surpassing Giovanni Reyna’s record. This season he featured for 20 minutes in the Bundesliga match against Union Berlin, played 90 minutes in the DFB-Pokal tie with HEBC Hamburg and made several appearances in the Regionalliga West and the Premier League International Cup U21.

On the international stage, Mauricio Pochettino gave Albert his senior United States debut in a friendly against Peru and he scored his first senior goal in a friendly versus Chile. He has made four appearances for the USMNT, recording one goal and one assist; because all of those appearances were in friendlies, he remains eligible to represent Germany and France.

Reports state Arsenal and Liverpool are exploring a summer move for Albert, with Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain also named as potential suitors; Dortmund have reportedly turned down approaches and prepared a new contract as they seek to retain the youngster.
