Matt Fitzpatrick wins French Open at Le Golf National for fourth title of season

Matt Fitzpatrick beat Angel Hidalgo to win the French Open at Le Golf National in Paris on 27 September 2026, securing a three-shot victory and his fourth title of the season.

The 32-year-old had already claimed the Valspar Championship and the RBC Heritage on the PGA Tour this year, and had also won the Zurich Classic team event in New Orleans alongside his younger brother Alex. He began the final day holding a five-shot lead. A run of 12 successive pars by Fitzpatrick allowed the chasing pack to reduce that margin to two.

Fitzpatrick closed with a one-under-par 70 to withstand Hidalgo's challenge. Crucial birdies on the 13th and 15th extended his advantage during the closing holes. Even a bogey at the 18th did not prevent him from finishing ahead.

"Delighted to get it over the line, it was definitely a battle today," he said. "I didn't have my best stuff for the first 12 holes and then managed to find some of my best stuff. "In a way I was quite lucky - I left myself in some nice spots where you can still get up and down from, but I fully took advantage of that and did really well."

The final leaderboard showed Fitzpatrick at -20, with Angel Hidalgo second on -17. Matthieu Pavon, Tom Vaillant, Kristoffer Reitan and Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra completed the top group on -15.

Matthieu Pavon recorded the round of the day, a seven-under 64, to secure a tie for fourth alongside Vaillant, Lopez-Chacarra and Reitan. Pavon's 64 was the lowest single-round score reported for the final day.

Selected others on the scoreboard included -12 L Aaberg (Swe); -10 E Ferguson (Sco), D Bradbury (Eng); and -7 E Molinari (Ita), V Hovland (Nor).

The victory was Fitzpatrick's 11th European Tour title and his fourth success of the season.
