Matt Gogel handed six-month suspension by PGA Tour for betting
American golfer Matt Gogel has been suspended for six months by the PGA Tour for betting on golf tournaments, the PGA Tour said on 26 August 2026. Gogel plays on the PGA Tour Champions circuit, which is reserved for professional golfers aged 50 and older.
The 55-year-old admitted placing "small recreational wagers" in 2024 and 2025 and said he unknowingly violated PGA Tour policy. He told the tour he had not bet on events in which he was participating.
Gogel is 20th in the PGA Tour Champions' season-long Charles Schwab Cup points race and recorded two top-10 finishes across 18 PGA Tour Champions events in 2026. He was most recently in action at the Rogers Charity Classic in Calgary, Alberta, where he finished tied 30th last week.
The PGA Tour announced the six-month suspension came into effect on 23 August and will last until 22 February. Gogel has earned more than $760,000 (£559,000) in prize money from Champions events.
He won the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in 2002, which remains his only victory in 179 starts on the PGA Tour.
The suspension runs until 22 February and Gogel said: "I would never knowingly violate the integrity of the game of golf." He added: "I made an honest mistake and I look forward to playing in 2027 on the PGA Tour Champions."
