McKibbin one behind Norgaard in Delhi as McIlroy trails by three

Tom McKibbin sat one shot off the lead after a weather-disrupted opening day of the DP World India Championship at the Delhi Golf Club in New Delhi on 15 October 2026, with Rory McIlroy three shots further back. Denmark's Niklas Norgaard topped the day-one leaderboard.
Norgaard recorded a six-under-par 66 that included an eagle, six birdies and two bogeys to lead the field, while Tom McKibbin, Eugenio Chacarra and Thomas Detry finished their opening rounds on five under. Play was suspended for lightning shortly after 06:30 BST and did not resume until five hours later, a delay that left many of the field unable to complete their first 18 holes and prevented others from starting.
McKibbin's scorecard featured six birdies and a solitary bogey; the 23-year-old began at the 10th hole and picked up shots on four straight holes from the 12th to the 15th before dropping a shot at the par-four 16th. Birdies at the 18th and the third elevated him into a share of the lead briefly prior to Norgaard's late surge.
Norgaard moved a shot clear with a late run that produced one eagle and five birdies in his final seven holes, the sequence that separated him from the -5 players. His 66 left him atop the leaderboard at six under par at the close of play.
Three Scots — Scott Jamieson, Robert MacIntyre and Ewen Ferguson — sat on three under alongside India's Om Prakash Chouhan and England's Marcus Armitage. McIlroy bogeyed the first hole of his round, the 10th, then birdied the 13th, 15th, 18th and second before dropping a further shot at the third to finish on two under, the same score as England's Tommy Fleetwood; selected others on the scoresheet included J Rose (Eng), L Donald (Eng) and S Lowry (Ire).
McKibbin's only DP World Tour victory to date came at the European Open in Germany in 2023. Since January 2025 he has been part of the LIV Golf tour, and this season he has registered top-six finishes at the British Masters and the Irish Open on the DP World Tour.
McIlroy sat third in the Race to Dubai standings before this week's tournament, behind leader Patrick Reed and second-placed Eugenio Chacarra. The published day-one leaderboard also showed A Meronk (Pol) with five holes played before play ended on day one.
