Meetings, Michaels and Styles cited in John Cena Classic update ahead of 11/2 Raw in Brooklyn

New details about the John Cena Classic have emerged ahead of John Cena's expected appearance on the November 2 WWE Raw in Brooklyn. WrestleVotes Radio reported the promotion has held multiple creative meetings and sought outside input on the event.

Cena announced the John Cena Classic at the Backlash PLE 2026 and said it would begin in December this year; the concept has been described as a new, recurring annual event and tournament for the Stamford-based promotion. The initial proposal was presented as a showcase and a milestone programme for Club WWE, and the megastar has promoted Club WWE since its inception.

WrestleVotes Radio said discussions aimed to make the event feel distinct. “There have been multiple meetings and creative discussions about the John Cena Classic, with the company wanting to ensure it looks and feels fresh.”

Those reports added that senior figures outside the usual creative circle were consulted. “We’re told various individuals who don’t typically weigh in on these types of projects were consulted, including Shawn Michaels and A.J. Styles. While the initial idea was pitched as a showcase and a milestone program for Club WWE, a source indicated that the event will likely be streamed elsewhere.”

In the final hour of RAW’s October 26 episode, the promotion aired a vignette announcing the 17-time champion’s return to the flagship show next week in Brooklyn, New York. Afterward, Cena tweeted that he would end all speculation and hinted he’d reveal more details about the annual event he proposed, and it was announced that Cena would also appear on NXT next week. Cena last appeared on RAW on November 17, 2025.

An announcement is expected on the November 2 WWE Raw in Brooklyn, and Cena is also scheduled to appear on NXT next week.
