Messi returns to training and is set for Inter Miami’s MLS round 28 tie with DC United at NU Stadium on Saturday

Lionel Messi has returned to Inter Miami first-team training after appearing in his farewell game for the Argentina national team and is expected to be available for Saturday’s Major League Soccer round 28 match at NU Stadium against DC United.

DC United travel to NU Stadium for the fixture as Inter Miami host the round 28 match; the Herons have managed only one win in their last five outings, that victory coming against Cruz Azul in the Campeones Cup, and have gone without a win in their last five MLS matches. Inter Miami have home-ground advantage but, the article notes, must maintain consistency, while DC United have lost two of their last four matches and face the added challenge of an away trip.

An update accompanying coverage of Messi’s return read: "All eyes on Saturday 🤜 🤛 pic.twitter.com/s7u55EMdWZ". The article states that Messi rejoined first-team training at Inter Miami after his Argentina farewell match and that this development means he is all set to be part of the upcoming clash with DC United.

The 39-year-old is described in the piece as the most consistent player for Inter Miami this season, having scored in each of the club’s last four matches and reportedly eager to continue that run. The write-up adds that, with his current form, Messi will be a persistent threat to opposing defences.

Statistical information in the article records Messi’s season output as follows: "In 24 MLS appearances this season, Leo Messi has scored 21 goals and has 11 goals to his name." The article also states that Messi will be paired alongside Luis Suarez in Inter Miami’s final third.

The piece notes Messi’s overall tally for Inter Miami as "102 goals in 117 games for the Herons." It also repeats that the player is 39 years old while referencing his role alongside Suarez in attack.

Fans are informed that matches can be viewed live on Apple TV worldwide. The confirmed next fixture is Inter Miami versus DC United at NU Stadium on Saturday in Major League Soccer round 28.
