Lionel Messi scored in the 83rd minute to give visiting Inter Miami a 2-1 victory over the New England Revolution in an MLS regular-season match on November 1, 2026, with the strike his MLS-leading 26th of the season. The win had immediate playoff seeding significance for Miami.

Messi also set up German Berterame’s 69th-minute equalizer, while Telasco Segovia supplied assists on both Inter Miami goals. The result ended Miami’s two-match winless run and changed the Eastern Conference pecking order as Inter Miami (16-6-11, 59 points) moved above New England (18-11-4, 58 points) into second place.

New England opened the scoring in the 53rd minute through Daniel Gazdag. Peyton Miller created the chance by beating Gonzalo Lujan on the dribble to reach the right side of the penalty area and slide a pass toward the penalty spot; Ilay Feingold added a backheeled touch that set up Gazdag to power a first-time shot past Dayne St. Clair from eight yards.

Messi forced a diving stop from goalkeeper Matt Turner in the 65th minute, and Brooklyn Raines cleared Berterame’s rebound off the line. Four minutes later Segovia lofted a pass into the box for Messi, who could not head goalward but popped the ball up for Berterame to arrive and power a downward finish into the bottom right corner for the equalizer.

The match-winner in the 83rd began when Messi picked up a loose ball roughly 30 yards out and weaved through several New England defenders. Segovia provided a crucial touch to shield a defender and played the ball back onto Messi’s left foot, and Messi finished into the bottom left corner.

Late drama followed an apparent Revolution equalizer in the 87th minute that was overturned after video review; referee Sergii Boiko ruled Luca Langoni offside on the play. Before halftime chances were limited: Berterame tested Turner with a comfortable stop in the 28th minute and Raines fired high on a one-time chance nine minutes later.

The victory moved Inter Miami (16-6-11, 59 points) above New England (18-11-4, 58 points) into second place in the Eastern Conference, with one regular-season match remaining.
