Michael Atherton outlines why Test matches are finishing earlier
Former England captain Michael Atherton said in a Times of India article published on 29 August 2026 that Test matches are wrapping up more swiftly than they did in earlier years.
He attributed the trend to the rise of aggressive T20-style batting, improved fast-bowling performances and the preparation of bowler-friendly pitches for the World Test Championship.
Atherton also cited the impact of DRS technology on umpiring decisions, particularly LBWs, and referenced statistics showing a noticeable increase in matches concluding within a three-day timeframe.
