Michael Jordan's 'Last Dance' game three jersey sells for $12.3m (£9.3m)

Michael Jordan's game three Chicago Bulls jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals sold for $12.3m (£9.3m) at Joopiter on 1 October 2026. The item went under the hammer on the digital auction house owned by Pharrell Williams.
The jersey was worn in game three of the 1998 NBA Finals during Jordan's final season with the Chicago Bulls. Jordan helped the Bulls win the series 4-2 to claim his sixth and final NBA Championship, and he was named Finals' Most Valuable Player in all six championships. Michael Jordan later came out of retirement to play two more seasons with the Washington Wizards from 2001-2003.
The $12.3m sale set a new record for a piece of Jordan memorabilia, surpassing the previous high of $10.1m (£7.6m) paid for his jersey from game one of the 1998 Finals. The new figure was reported as $12.3m (£9.3m).
The jersey had been put up for sale by entrepreneur Ryan Gough and was listed at Joopiter, Pharrell Williams' digital auction house, which gave it an estimated price of $10-15m (£7.5-£11.3m). Joopiter said in the auction posting: "Few objects in the history of sport embody greatness as completely as Michael Jordan's game three jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals," "Worn during the Last Dance... it marks the culmination of an era that transformed basketball into a global cultural phenomenon. "Today it stands among the most important game-worn sports artifacts ever to come to market."
Other high-profile sports memorabilia sales cited in the coverage include Maradona's 'Hand of God' shirt, which sold for £7.1m. Those sales were referenced alongside the Jordan auction in reporting of the market for game-worn items.
The overall record for a piece of game-worn sports memorabilia remains the jersey worn by Babe Ruth when he "called the shot" during the 1932 World Series, which sold for $24.1m (£18.2m) in 2024.
