Mikel Arteta reportedly reaches new contract agreement with Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has reportedly agreed a new contract with Premier League winners Arsenal, according to a report published on September 22, 2026. The Spaniard’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season and negotiations over an extension have been ongoing for several months.

Sources say talks have progressed since earlier this month when BBC Sport reported all parties were close to an agreement, and it is currently thought Arteta has reached a definitive deal with the club. The report states the precise length of the new contract has not been confirmed but it is expected to extend his tenure into at least his 10th year at Arsenal following his arrival in December 2019, and to include a pay increase above his existing annual compensation of £10 million plus an additional £5 million in bonuses.

Arteta has overseen a run of trophy success at Arsenal: he led the club to their first league title since 2004 in May, secured the FA Community Shield with a 3-0 win over Manchester City last month, and has also won the FA Cup during his time in charge.
