Miller-Uibo says she still wants to attempt 400m world record during India visit

Shaunae Miller-Uibo said on Thursday evening at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi that she still wants to take a crack at the 400m world record while visiting India for the first time as an international ambassador for Sunday’s Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon. She recounted her 2016 Olympic finish during the appearance.
Miller-Uibo, a sprinter who competes in the 200m and 400m, won Olympic 400m gold in Rio 2016 with a dive that beat Allyson Felix by 0.07 seconds. She defended her Olympic title five years later at Tokyo and won gold at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene. Her personal best in the 400m is 48.36 seconds and the standing world record was set by Marita Koch at 47.60s in 1985. In the 200m Miller-Uibo’s best is 21.74 seconds while Florence Griffith-Joyner’s world record stands at 21.34s.
At the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Thursday evening she took a trip down memory lane and said: “I remember that when I had covered the first 100m, I felt very great. But with 50m to go, I did not have anything left to give. I heard everyone’s footsteps around me. I saw Allyson in my (peripheral) view and that is what had me leaning towards the line,”
Discussing her recent return to competition, Miller-Uibo described her family and preparation, saying: “I had two babies. One in 2023 and another in 2025. I have been building back up ever since. This season went really well for me. I was trying to shake off the rust. It is about setting new goals for myself. I would like to give a crack at the world record. I feel I am more than capable of doing it,” she asserted.
With the World Championships slated for 2027 followed by the 2028 LA Olympics, Miller-Uibo said she remains focused on challenging the 400m world record as she builds toward those major events.
