Minute’s silence observed before Champions League matches after CD Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel Alameda’s death

A minute’s silence was observed before all UEFA Champions League 2026-27 league-phase matches on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, in memory of CD Tenerife forward Jesus de Miguel Alameda, who died at the age of 30 following an on-field collision.
The collision occurred in added time of a Spanish Segunda División match between Tenerife and FC Andorra on Monday. Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono came rushing out of his goal to challenge for a long ball near the half-way line and collided with De Miguel. The Tenerife forward dropped to his knees, clutching his torso, before falling onto the pitch and was surrounded by players from both teams; Owono was shown a straight red card.
He reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest and was resuscitated before being taken to hospital, but Tenerife announced he died on Tuesday morning. “There are no words of comfort,” the statement read. “There is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this profound sense of sorrow. We stand with his devastated family, his loved ones, and the entire Tenerife community.”
De Miguel’s death prompted an outpouring of grief and support from the wider footballing community, and UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin paid his respects. “We are heartbroken by the death of Jesus de Miguel Alameda,” Ceferin said in a statement. “We have searched for words and found only silence. In that silence, our hearts and thoughts are with his family, his teammates, everyone at CD Tenerife, and all those who mourn this tragic loss.”
The Royal Spanish Football Federation suspended all first-round Copa del Rey and third-round Copa de la Reina matches scheduled for Tuesday following De Miguel’s death.
Ceferin announced that a minute’s silence will be observed before all of this week’s fixtures in the UEFA Champions League, the Europa League, and the Conference League.
