Saudi-led coalition forces intercepted a ballistic missile near Riyadh early on October 23, authorities said, as WWE continued construction on the Crown Jewel 2026 stage at Riyadh Season Stadium ahead of the November 7 event. The interception took place shortly after 4 a.m. local time and occurred amid ongoing preparations for the premium live event.

Construction work at Riyadh Season Stadium in the King Abdullah Financial District is reported to be underway despite rising regional security concerns, and the Crown Jewel show remains scheduled for November 7. The Saudi government announced the United Nations World Data Forum and Second Saudi Statistical Forum, originally set for November 9–12 in Riyadh, had been postponed until 2027.

Saudi-led coalition officials confirmed that air defence systems intercepted a ballistic missile heading towards Riyadh early on October 23. The interception reportedly occurred shortly after 4 a.m. local time, and authorities also said they intercepted another ballistic missile aimed at Khamis Mushait plus two drones directed towards southern Saudi Arabia. Officials reported no casualties or property damage from those interceptions.

The Stamford-based promotion has said the situation is not impacting its decision as of now and has not issued an official statement announcing a relocation or postponement. Media reports have suggested WWE has considered contingency options, including a potential alternative venue in the United States. No formal change to the event's dates or location has been confirmed.

Organisers and broadcasters face logistical challenges linked to regional instability, with international travel, staff safety and the movement of production equipment all identified as potential concerns. Promotional material and ongoing stage work indicate plans are progressing at the venue, and WWE continues to advertise the November 7 event in Riyadh. Those activities have continued alongside the security developments reported on October 23.

The uncertainty surrounding Crown Jewel arrives at a commercially sensitive time for WWE's relationship with Saudi Arabia, which is scheduled to host WrestleMania 43 in 2027 and will be the first time a flagship event is planned to take place outside North America. Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio reported the promotion is set to receive approximately $150 million for hosting WrestleMania 43 in Riyadh. Cancellation of Crown Jewel would, the report said, have a significant impact on TKO’s profits; a TKO-owned firm and Saudi authorities have worked together since 2018 to bring events such as Crown Jewel and Night of Champions to the kingdom.

Two Champion vs Champion matches have been announced for Crown Jewel 2026 and are expected to determine the event’s Crown Jewel Champions rather than put the competitors’ regular titles on the line. Three matches have been announced so far, including a Reigns–Zayn clash tied to their Bloodline-related history and a meeting between Morgan and Green following their respective championship victories. On the October 23 edition of SmackDown, GM Nic Aldis booked a match between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton and added a Last Man Standing stipulation.

As of October 23, the 2026 Crown Jewel is scheduled to take place in Riyadh on November 7 and there has been no official confirmation of cancellation; preparations for the event continue at Riyadh Season Stadium.
