Mizoram to award ₹25 lakh each to Lalremsiami and Lalthantluangi after India’s Asian Games 2026 hockey gold

Mizoram’s government announced recognition for Lalremsiami Hmar Zote and Lalthantluangi after India’s women’s hockey team won the gold medal at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya. India beat China 1-0 in the final to claim the title at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
The victory ended a 44-year gap since India’s previous women’s hockey gold at the Asian Games; the earlier triumph came in 1982 when India defeated Singapore 3-0 in the final. The Aichi-Nagoya win is India’s second women’s hockey gold at the Asiad.
Forward Lalremsiami scored the match’s only goal in the 10th minute, her seventh of the tournament, to secure the final for India. Twenty-year-old defender Lalthantluangi contributed two goals during the campaign; she did not play in the final but remained a member of the squad throughout the tournament.
The Mizoram government has announced a cash prize of ₹25 lakh each for Lalremsiami and Lalthantluangi under the Mizoram Sports Incentives Cash Award Scheme. Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma praised the Indian women’s hockey team for their title-winning campaign and issued the award announcement on social media.
“In recognition of their outstanding achievement, both players shall be awarded ₹25 lakh each under the existing Mizoram Sports Incentives Cash Award Scheme.” Lalduhoma wrote on social media.
Lalremsiami Hmar Zote and Lalthantluangi have become the first athletes from Mizoram to win Asian Games gold; both players will each receive ₹25 lakh under the Mizoram Sports Incentives Cash Award Scheme.
