Mohammad Abbas becomes latest Pakistan pacer to take five-wicket haul at Lord’s

Mohammad Abbas earned a place on the Lord’s honours board after taking a five-wicket haul in the second innings of the second Test of the ongoing Test series between Pakistan and England at Lord’s. The bowling display came amid Pakistan’s batting struggles in that match.

Lord’s has long been the setting for notable contests between Pakistan and England and has produced several strong fast-bowling performances by Pakistan over the years. Abbas had been close to the honours board on three previous occasions at the ground, when he recorded 4/23, 4/41 and 4/73. He had to wait eight years to put his name on the board. Abbas also has eight five-wicket hauls in Test cricket, six of which came against six different oppositions.

The latest five-wicket performance took Abbas to a total of 17 Test wickets at Lord’s, equalling Waqar Younis’ mark as the most by a Pakistani pacer at the venue.

Mohammad Abbas in 2026 became the seventh Pakistan bowler and only the fifth pacer to have reached the five-wicket milestone at Lord’s. Mohammad Amir’s five-wicket haul came during his first tour of England in 2010, when he produced figures of 6/84 and became the fifth Pakistani bowler to achieve the feat.

At Lord’s, Mohammad Amir and now Mohammad Abbas are the only Pakistani pacers to have taken a five-wicket haul in a Test innings since 1992. Pakistani spinners Yasir Shah and Mushtaq Ahmed are the only two spin bowlers from Pakistan to take a five-wicket haul in a Test innings at Lord’s.

In the last 34 years of Pakistan cricket, names such as Wasim Akram, Mohammad Asif, Abdur Razzaq and Shaheen Afridi have represented Pakistan with the red ball.
