Mohun Bagan Super Giant defeated East Bengal FC 1-0 at the VYBK Stadium in Kolkata on 25th July 2026 in their most recent Durand Cup meeting, with Sahal Abdul Samad scoring the match's only goal. The fixture was the opening match of the 2026-27 season and kicked off the 135th edition of the Durand Cup.

Both clubs fielded all-Indian lineups for the Durand Cup 2026 opener and looked rusty early on. The first half was played in compact, cautious formations by both sides, and the match was described as entertaining at the break.

Mohun Bagan were the better side in the opening 45 minutes and held the upper hand for much of the half. The best chance in that period fell to Sahal Abdul Samad in the 18th minute, but his effort was denied by Gill. Neither team wanted to concede first in the high-stakes derby, which contributed to the cautious approach.

Sahal Abdul Samad broke the deadlock early in the second half, scoring in the 52nd minute from an assist by Kiyan Nasiri. That strike proved to be the solitary goal of the match and secured Mohun Bagan's first win of their Durand Cup 2026 campaign.

Since that meeting on 25th July, Mohun Bagan have played five games and East Bengal have played six, including the ACL Two Preliminary Stage match. With each passing game, both Kolkata clubs have started to look better on the field according to the match report.

The two sides are scheduled to meet again in the Durand Cup 2026 final on 23rd August 2026, with kick-off set for 5:00 PM at the Salt Lake Stadium (VYBK), Kolkata. The final will be available live on Sony Sports Network, SonyLIV and Sony Aath, and it represents an opportunity for both Mohun Bagan and East Bengal to begin the 2026-27 season by winning silverware.
