Mohun Bagan Super Giant beat Jamshedpur FC on penalties to reach Durand Cup semi-finals

Mohun Bagan Super Giant beat Jamshedpur FC 9-8 on penalties to book a semi-final berth in the third quarter-final of the 135th Durand Cup at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Monday, August 17, 2026.
The match finished 1-1 after normal time, with Sahal Abdul Samad scoring early for Mohun Bagan and Devendra Murgaonkar equalising for Jamshedpur on the stroke of half-time.
Mohun Bagan opened the scoring inside the second minute when Pronay Halder’s pass to Rashithoi Meetei was not controlled, allowing Sahal to pounce on the loose ball, drive into the box and slot a low finish into the bottom-right corner.
After the early setback Jamshedpur gradually settled and produced a clear opening in the 17th minute when Lalrhriatpuia Chawngthu’s through ball found Aman CK, whose angled effort was denied by Vishal Kaith at his near post, and they went close again from a 25th-minute free kick when Pratik Chowdhary’s attempt flew over the bar.
Mohun Bagan created several opportunities before half-time, including a 27th-minute move where Sahal and Liston Colaco combined to pick out Dejan Drazic for a free header that went wide, a later Drazic volley from Abhishek’s cross that lacked a clean connection, and a 37th-minute shot from Lalengmawia Ralte that sailed over the bar, before Jamshedpur levelled when Rashithoi’s long-range effort was parried by Kaith and Devendra finished from close range.
Jamshedpur began the second half on the front foot with Aman CK a consistent threat, while Mohun Bagan produced chances through substitutes and set pieces: in the 49th minute Samir Zeljkovic fed Sahal whose curled effort went over, Alberto Rodriguez could not direct a header from Kiyan Nassiri’s corner two minutes later, and Zeljkovic’s 61st-minute attempt lacked the curl to trouble goalkeeper Albino Gomes.
Mohun Bagan squandered a gilt-edged chance in the 63rd minute when Albino failed to clear and Sahal nicked the ball to Liston Colaco, who could not control the chance, Jamshedpur replied in the 66th minute when Aman set up Sanan Mohammed whose first-time effort went high, substitute Sayan Banerjee drilled a low cross to Jamie Maclaren in the 79th minute that could not be directed on target, and deep into stoppage time Sayan tested Albino with a long-range strike that produced a save and an ineffective corner.
The match was settled by a marathon penalty shootout that ran into sudden death after both sides converted their initial kicks; the first 16 attempts were scored before Lawmsangzuala saw his sudden-death effort saved by Vishal Kaith and Tekcham Abhishek Singh converted the decisive spot kick to send Mohun Bagan Super Giant through.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant will face the winner of Quarter-final 4 between Shillong Lajong FC and NorthEast United FC in the semi-final on August 20, 2026, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong.
