The club last lifted the Calcutta Football League in 2018 when they edged Calcutta Customs under Shankarlal Chakraborty to claim their 30th CFL title, and they will eye their 31st under a new coaching management.
Mohammedan SC secured a win over Bhawanipore FC and recorded a draw against East Bengal FC in the Championship Round, with the Black Panthers positioned level with Mohun Bagan on four points. Mohammedan enter the match with 14 CFL titles to their name and last won the trophy in 2023, which capped off a historic hat-trick of consecutive titles (2021, 2022, and 2023).
Both sides sit on four points and a victory would move either team to seven points and could be enough to clinch the CFL 2026 trophy, while a draw would leave the door open for the other three teams still in title contention. The result therefore has direct implications for who will finish top of the Championship Round standings.
