Mojang unveils The Sift, Ice Caves and Minecraft Dungeons 2 details at Minecraft Live 2026

Mojang Studios unveiled a slate of upcoming features at Minecraft Live 2026 on September 27, 2026, including a new dimension called The Sift and a new underground biome named Ice Caves. The studio also showcased Minecraft Dungeons 2 and announced marketplace sound packs, creator tools and a Minecraft World attraction at Chessington.

The livestream presented a look at planned additions for the coming year, ranging from a brand-new dimension and a perilous subterranean biome to updates for creators and theme-park elements. Developers said The Sift will debut in Minecraft Dungeons 2 before rolling out to the main Minecraft game in 2027, and called it Minecraft’s first brand-new dimension in nearly 15 years. The announcement described The Sift as the fourth dimension introduced in the franchise to date.

Ice Caves were introduced as a new, rare underground biome that will feature distinctive ice crystals and environmental decorations. The reveal named a new hostile mob, the Frozen Zombie, and said the enemy can freeze players during combat. Mojang indicated explorers will encounter these elements while navigating the icy region.

The Sift was identified as a major reveal and will be available first in Minecraft Dungeons 2, with a later rollout to the main game in 2027. Developers characterised the release as the first entirely new dimension in nearly 15 years and the fourth dimension to be added to Minecraft overall.

Minecraft Dungeons 2 was shown in detail at the event and is scheduled for release on September 29, 2026. Developers also outlined plans for future downloadable content and expansions for the game.

Mojang announced new sound-effect packs for the Minecraft Marketplace that are due to arrive later this year, and said it will introduce additional development tools intended to offer a more advanced building experience for creators.

The showcase included an update on Minecraft World, which Mojang said will soon open at Chessington World of Adventures in the UK. The exhibit displayed concept artwork for a Minecraft-themed hotel and confirmed an announced roller coaster as part of the attraction.

Minecraft Dungeons 2 is due to launch on September 29, 2026, and The Sift is scheduled to arrive in the main Minecraft game in 2027.
