Monaco beaten at Lorient as Leverkusen rally to beat Freiburg

Monaco were beaten 1-0 at Lorient in Ligue 1 on Sunday after Noah Cadiou converted a second-half penalty, while Bayer Leverkusen came from behind to defeat Freiburg 2-1 in the Bundesliga on the same day.
Monaco’s defeat prevented them returning to the top of Ligue 1 and left them one of four teams level on points at the summit; Paris FC joined that group after edging Rennes 4-3 courtesy of Lassine Sinayoko’s injury-time penalty. Rennes dropped to fifth, one point adrift, despite Estéban Lepaul scoring a hat-trick of penalties. Paris Saint-Germain sit top on goals scored after beating Strasbourg 3-1 on Saturday, with Paris FC and Lille level behind them and Monaco just below on goal difference. Lyon could move above PSG when they host Nice later on Sunday, while Marseille’s 5-2 victory over Angers moved them away from the relegation zone and Auxerre beat Le Havre 3-1 with Danny Namaso scoring twice.
In Germany, Ibrahim Maza and Patrik Schick supplied the goals as Bayer Leverkusen rallied from behind to win 2-1 at Freiburg. Leverkusen have accumulated 13 of a possible 18 points following their opening-day defeat to promoted Elversberg and sit fourth, level on points with third-placed Freiburg, who host Bayern Munich next weekend.
Rock-bottom Borussia Mönchengladbach remain without a point after a 2-1 home defeat to Hoffenheim. Hoffenheim’s Bambasé Conté opened the scoring with his second goal in two games following a surprise Germany call-up in October; Wael Mohya equalised for Gladbach just after the break before Alexander Prass restored Hoffenheim’s lead shortly afterwards. The victory was Hoffenheim’s second of the season and they will face Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday.
Cesc Fàbregas’s Como ended a three-game Serie A winless run with a 3-1 victory at Fiorentina. Mattia Liberali and Nico Paz struck in the first half to put Como ahead, Marin Pongracic reduced the deficit for Fiorentina before the interval and Anastasios Douvikas scored early in the second half to settle the match, leaving Fiorentina in the relegation zone on four points.
AC Milan moved above Como into fourth after surviving an Atalanta comeback to win 3-2; Gonçalo Ramos, Adrien Rabiot and Mario Gila had Milan 3-0 up after 58 minutes before Gianluca Gaetano and Nikola Krstovic pulled two goals back for Atalanta. Lazio travel to Juventus later on Sunday where a win would take them level on 19 points with Inter at the top of Serie A, and Lecce earlier recorded a 3-0 victory at Udinese with Kialonda Gaspar, Konan N’Dri and Jamil Siebert all scoring.
In Spain, Osasuna beat Racing Santander 2-0 through an early penalty from Ante Budimir and a late goal from Asier Osambela, while Celta Vigo won 2-1 at home to Alavés. Real Madrid host Sevilla later on Sunday and require a win to reduce the nine-point gap to Barcelona.
Key upcoming fixtures that will affect the standings include Lyon hosting Nice later on Sunday, Real Madrid versus Sevilla later on Sunday, and Freiburg’s home match against Bayern Munich next weekend.
