Moonveil wins Coromandel Gromor Deccan Fillies Championship in Hyderabad
Trainer S.S. Attaollahi’s filly Moonveil, ridden by P. Trevor, won the Coromandel Gromor Deccan Fillies Championship (Gr. III) over 1,600m in Hyderabad on Sunday (Aug. 30). The race was the main attraction on Sunday’s card at the Hyderabad meeting.
Moonveil, owned by M/s. Blazing Saddles (PF), M/s. Maloji Baburao Bhosale, Gaurav Gopalkrishan Sethi & Sulaiman S. Attaollahi, settled in third position until the bend and was ridden out vigorously by Trevor in the straight. The filly responded to the urgings, held off late challenges from Madante and Vortex and claimed the first classic of the Hyderabad Monsoon Races in a time of 1m, 38.37s; betting returned ₹29 (w), 15, 18 and 14 (p). Moonveil was the race favourite.
In the Carter Princess Plate (1,800m) Theos (P. Trevor) finished first ahead of Mandate (Antony Raj), Sugriva (Arjun) and Orionvale (Imran Chisty), winning by 1-1/2, Dist and 1/2 in 1m, 53.94s; payouts were ₹24 (w), 12 and 10 (p). The race favourite was Mandate, the owner was Mr. C. Aryama Sundaram and the trainer S.S. Attaollahi; Una Paloma Blanca was declared a non-starter by the stewards after an inquiry.
Majestic Legacy (Antony Raj S) took the Belmont Prince Plate (1,800m), beating Digital Empress (Sandesh), Tipped Off (Vivek G) and Weseethesamesun (Rafique Sk.) by 2-3/4, 1-1/4 and 5-3/4 in 1m, 53.79s; returns were ₹53 (w), 14, 10 and 10 (p). Tipped Off was the favourite; owners were Mr. Arun Alagappan rep. Arun Alagappan Racing LLP & Mr. Rajendran rep. Rapar’s Galloping Stars LLP, Mr. Haider Soomar & Mr. Chandrakanth Kankaria, with trainer Darius Byramji.
Echoes of Time (A. Ashad Asbar) won the Bhagyanagar Million (1,400m), finishing ahead of Perception (Naresh), Cherie Chevalier (P. Sai K) and African Gold (Sandesh) by 3/4, 1-1/2 and 3/4 in 1m, 24.74s; payouts were ₹37 (w), 25, 12 and 25 (p). African Gold started favourite; the owner was Mr. S. Ganapathy and the trainer Aravind Ganapathy.
Win Me Over (Rafique Sk.) prevailed in the Director General Artillery Cup (1,100m) with Konaseema (Md. Ekram) second, Faizah (Abhay Singh) third and Vidyutprabhava (M.S. Deora) fourth; Victory Run was not run and the margins were 13-1/2, 5-1/4 and 1-1/4 in 1m, 7.09s. Returns were ₹21 (w), 12, 15 and 47 (p); the favourite was Win Me Over, owner Mr. C.V. Prasad Rao and trainer B. Mukesh Kumar.
Stars Envied (G. Naresh) won the Director General of Police Trophy (Div. I) (1,400m), with Solara (Akshay K) second, Basilica (Trevor) third and Leather Back (Rafique Sk.) fourth, finishing 3/4, Neck and 2-1/4 apart in 1m, 27.11s; payouts were ₹22 (w), 10, 10 and 14 (p).
