More than 10 Indian cricketers in Bengaluru rehab ahead of Sri Lanka Tests

Ahead of their two-match Test series in Sri Lanka beginning on August 15, 2026, the Indian cricket team is confronting a major injury crisis, with more than 10 players undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The situation includes players in long-term recovery as well as those with minor issues expected to be managed for upcoming fixtures.
The team, traditionally noted for producing highly fit athletes, has been forced to alter selection plans as a congested international schedule takes a toll on player fitness. India suffered consecutive T20I defeats to Ireland and England, followed by an ODI series loss to England, before completing a 3–0 series win in Zimbabwe. The two-match Test tour of Sri Lanka carries the immediate aim of winning both matches to strengthen India’s chances of reaching the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 Final, and is followed by home bilateral ODI and T20I series against the West Indies and a New Zealand tour that includes five ODIs, five T20Is and two Tests.
More than 10 players being treated at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru has compelled the team management to rethink selections for the near term. The list of Indian players who are currently injured and out of action is described as extensive, with varying degrees of severity across the group.
Nine active Indian players are currently dealing with injuries, and the report identifies those names: Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Akash Deep, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill and Varun Chakravarthy. Jasprit Bumrah’s knees are described as swollen, and he continues to miss matches; the other listed players are noted as regular starters across formats who continue to suffer from various injuries.
Some members of the injury list are classified as mildly injured and are expected to participate in the Sri Lanka Tests while taking precautions. The squad’s ability to field its strongest available XI will depend on the pace of individual recoveries and the outcomes of ongoing rehabilitation work at the BCCI facility.
The Sri Lanka vs India two-match Test series is scheduled to begin on August 15, 2026. Several players reported as carrying minor issues are expected to be managed for that series while following precautionary measures.
