Mumbai Indians confirm 11 retained players and six departures for WPL 2027

Mumbai Indians announced their retained and released squads for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 on September 28, 2026, ahead of the upcoming auction in Kochi. The franchise kept 11 players from its 17-member roster and released six ahead of the WPL 2027 auction.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s Mumbai Indians entered WPL 2026 with high expectations after winning two of the competition’s first three editions, but won only three matches in the 2026 season and finished fourth, failing to make the playoffs for the first time in four seasons. On September 28, all five WPL franchises revealed lists of players they intended to retain and release as they prepared for the next edition.

Mumbai Indians retained a core of international and domestic players. The franchise kept Amanjot Kaur, Amelia Kerr, Harmanpreet Kaur, Hayley Matthews, Natalie Sciver, Nicola Carey, Rahila Firdous, S Sajana, Sanskriti Gupta, Shabnim Ismail and Vaishnavi Sharma. Harmanpreet Kaur will continue as captain for the fifth edition, which is scheduled to run between 14 January and 7 February 2027.

The club’s retention included prominent overseas all-rounders; the article specifically names Nat Sciver-Brunt, Hayley Matthews and Amelia Kerr among the top all-rounders retained. Nicola Carey and Shabnim Ismail were noted as the other two overseas players kept by the franchise.

Among the Indian players retained, the list features Amanjot Kaur, S. Sajana and Vaishnavi Sharma. The franchise also identified areas to address at the auction, stating it will be looking for a backup keeper and openers.

Mumbai Indians released six players and will enter the auction with a purse of INR 5.75 crore. The club’s released list was given as G Kamalini, Milly Illingworth, Nalla Reddy, Poonam Khemnar, Saika Ishaque and Triveni Vasistha. The report added that Milly Illingworth had been with the team for a price of INR 10 lakhs; G Kamalini and Saika Ishaque were released with the franchise adding INR 50 and 80 lakhs respectively, and Triveni Vasistha (20 Lakhs), Kranthi Reddy (10 Lakhs) and Poonam Khemnar (10 Lakhs) were described as the other released players.

The WPL 2027 auction is scheduled for October 28 and will be held at the Grand Hyatt Kochi.
