Muzumdar urges India Women to pursue world dominance

India women's head coach Amol Muzumdar said at an event organised by the Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai on October 31, 2026, that he wants the team to dominate world cricket rather than settle for occasional tournament success.
Muzumdar, a former Mumbai batter who took charge of the national side on October 25, 2023, succeeding Hrishikesh Kanitkar, spoke after overseeing a period of sustained success for India across formats. His appointment came as the side prepared for two major ICC tournaments over the following two years, and he has repeatedly emphasised preparation and discipline. Muzumdar has said he wants players to approach every match with the same hunger, irrespective of the opposition or format.
He has made clear the objective is long-term supremacy rather than isolated victories. Muzumdar has repeatedly stressed the importance of preparation and discipline as the foundation for that aim, and he expects the team to carry a consistent hunger into each fixture. That emphasis on mindset and routine underpins his plan to convert recent success into sustained dominance.
"Two years down the line, if they start dominating world cricket... dominance is something that we have always spoken about within the squad. Being ruthless on the ground is another thing that we have always maintained," Muzumdar said during an event organised by the Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai (SJAM).
"Obviously, from the background where I come from, my growth in Mumbai cricket was kind of similar. I try to inculcate those things, or give it back. If we start dominating world cricket, I would be happy," Muzumdar added.
The defining moment of his tenure came on November 2, 2025, when India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the World Cup final in Navi Mumbai. Prior to that victory, India chased 339 against Australia in the semi-final to register the highest successful run chase in women's ODI cricket at the time, events cited by Muzumdar as examples of the team's recent rise.
India have already shown signs of the approach Muzumdar describes in their most recent assignment, completing clean sweeps in both the three-match T20I and three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. The side won all six matches across those two series, a run of results the coach referenced when outlining his ambitions.
The next confirmed challenge comes in December, when India travel to South Africa. That tour comprises a one-off Test, three ODIs and three T20Is.
