On 7 November 2026, Rangers defeated St Mirren 2-0 in a Scottish Premiership match in Paisley, keeping pressure on leaders Celtic.

Rangers ended a run of away draws with a composed performance under Derek McInnes, Ryan Naderi converting a penalty after 18 minutes and skipper Dan Neil adding a deflected second just after the hour, extending the club’s unbeaten run in all competitions to 12 matches and moving them to within one point of Celtic having played the same number of fixtures.

Aberdeen slumped to a 4-0 home defeat by Hibernian at Pittodrie, a result that moved Hibs above their hosts into 10th place on goal difference after a dominant second-half display; the visitors had started the evening three points behind Aberdeen.

The home side had early chances — Hibs goalkeeper Raphael Sallinger saved from Jack Milne and Milne later struck the bar — before Jamie McGrath’s 25-yard strike found the net, with Callum Wright making it 2-0 and further goals from Thibault Klidjé and Nicky Cadden completing the rout.

Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson said: “It’s really, really disappointing, there’s no hiding away from it. It was an unacceptable performance and an unacceptable result. We haven’t taken our chances – Hibs had five or six chances and took four of them – [and] that’s always the difference in football. We got the result we deserved. “It’s a difficult situation, difficult for myself, the players, and the club. I will keep fighting until told otherwise. We have to be better than that, that’s not acceptable. We have to get players who want to fight and try to get us out of this situation.” He also insisted he will face the challenge head on as his side go into the international break in real trouble at the wrong end of the table.

At Tannadice, Dundee United drew 1-1 with Motherwell amid controversy when referee Ryan Lee, after an initial offside free-kick decision, followed VAR Andrew Dallas’s recommendation to review an incident in the United box involving Tawanda Maswanhise and skipper Dylan Tait; Lee then awarded a penalty which Lukas Fadinger converted before Jesse Randall levelled for the hosts.

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin criticised the spot-kick, saying: “It’s a poor decision for me. I know it’s going to be subjective and people will have their own opinions on it, but I don’t know what Dylan Tait is meant to do.” Motherwell manager Alfred Johansson defended the call: “He’s on the ball and gets down from a tackle, and it’s a penalty.”

St Johnstone claimed a 2-1 victory over Dundee in Perth, a result manager Simo Valakari was pleased to give supporters after recent struggles against their Tayside rivals; Josh Campbell headed the hosts in front after five minutes, Joe Westley replied early in the second half following a mix-up between keeper Ross Sinclair and Cheick Diabate, and Kai Fotheringham, on his first Premiership start for St Johnstone, struck a deflected winner on 72 minutes.

Celtic can restore a four-point lead when they host Kilmarnock on Sunday before the upcoming international break.
