Naoki Hamaguchi says Final Fantasy VII Revelation will require about 200GB of storage

Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, told VGC in a recent interview that the game is expected to require roughly 200GB of storage at launch and that physical disc releases will still demand substantial additional downloads.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is described by its developer as the final chapter of the remake and an ambitious open-world action RPG that Square Enix regards as one of its largest upcoming releases. The project is reported to be substantially bigger than the previous entries in the remake trilogy and, based on the announced size, is roughly twice the footprint of typical modern AAA titles.

In the VGC interview Hamaguchi reiterated that the final filesize is still being determined but the team anticipates it will sit around 200GB. The director’s comments were circulated alongside a developer tweet noting the same expectation and warning that the title’s full data set will exceed what a physical disc can contain.

That limitation affects the physical PS5 and Xbox versions: purchasers of disc copies will be required to download significant additional data to complete installation. The report states the game will not ship entirely on the disc formats intended for those consoles.

Taken together with Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the three entries in the modern remake trilogy are expected to use more than 400GB of storage. The coverage explicitly advises players who have not yet experienced the trilogy to manage console or PC storage accordingly, including deleting other content if necessary.

Square Enix has said its priorities remain on delivering quality for Cloud’s concluding story, emphasizing detailed environments, cinematic storytelling and combat presented in a polished form without compromises. The company’s statements frame the large installation size as a byproduct of those development aims.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled to launch on April 8, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. Based on the announced storage requirement, the title will be the largest game in the Final Fantasy franchise and the biggest entry in the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy.
