Neeraj Chopra seeks return to form at Lausanne Diamond League 2026

Neeraj Chopra will compete in the javelin at the Lausanne Diamond League 2026 in Switzerland on Friday, aiming to return to the top step of the podium. He arrives at the meeting after winning silver at the Commonwealth Games last month.
Chopra has a strong recent record in Lausanne, having won the Diamond League there in 2022 with a throw of 89.08m and again in 2023 with 87.66m, while finishing second in 2024 despite an 89.49m effort. Friday's meeting will be only his third competitive appearance of the 2026 season following a lengthy injury absence. The two-time Olympic medallist returned at the Doha Diamond League in June, throwing 85.69m to finish fourth, then improved to 85.83m to take silver at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. His last international victory on the global circuit came at the NC Classic in July 2025, and his Indian national record of 90.23m was set at the Doha Diamond League last year.
Chopra faces a strong field in Lausanne that includes reigning world champion Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago, Grenadian Olympic medallist Anderson Peters and Czech Republic's Olympic medallist Jakub Vadlejch. Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage is also entered after beating Chopra to Commonwealth Games gold in Glasgow. Pathirage currently leads the world rankings after recording a 92.62m throw at the Rome Diamond League.
The Lausanne meeting carries direct implications for qualification to the Diamond League Final: the top six javelin throwers in the season standings earn automatic places, while national and global wildcards can provide additional entries. Chopra sits seventh in the season standings with five points and will be looking to add to that total in Switzerland.
Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem will not be part of the Lausanne field; he has decided to sit out the meeting as he focuses on rebuilding his form before next month's Asian Games in Japan.
The Lausanne contest on Friday gives Chopra the opportunity to increase his five-point total and attempt to move into the top six of the season standings to secure automatic qualification for the Diamond League Final.
