Nic Nemeth addresses WWE‑TNA partnership after Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic omission

Nic Nemeth spoke to Adrian Hernandez on September 22, 2026, about the current status of the multi‑promotion arrangement between WWE and TNA following TNA’s omission from the 2026 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

The partnership, announced in January 2025 as a multi‑year agreement to facilitate crossover appearances, produced several interpromotional storylines and exchanges of talent. That collaboration also assisted TNA in securing a United States television and streaming agreement with AMC last December, a deal TNA President Carlos Silva said the WWE relationship helped finalise. In recent months the frequency of crossovers has declined: NXT wrestlers took part in the tournament to crown the Knockouts Television champion, while TNA performers have not appeared on NXT or WWE’s main roster.

Journalist Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has speculated that WWE scaled back its cooperation because TNA failed to obtain a Wednesday night television slot intended to challenge AEW. Meltzer suggested that, because TNA did not make a significant impact on AEW’s programming, WWE appears to be distancing itself from the alliance. That perceived shift was noted in reports pointing to WWE’s absence from TNA’s recent PPV Bound for Glory and the lack of TNA teams on the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic entry list.

After the Dusty snub, TNA World Champion and Tag Team Champion Nic Nemeth addressed the situation in the interview with Adrian Hernandez and described how the earlier crossovers had worked for talent exposure. "[Not being in The Dusty] doesn’t [bother him personally] because myself and my brother are comically busy at the moment. But it does — as a TNA wrestler… yeah, it does, because there’s a relationship there. We’ve had some moments where we got a lot of NXT people who were brand new, gave them a shot, gave them some TV time, got those reps in. It would be nice to see it replicated. But of course, it’s not always the time and place for it. There were times for months where we were going back and forth, all over NXT, our guys and gals were. And all over TNA, NXT guys and gals were. And some people were going to Raw and SmackDown, and it led to Leon Slater getting some cool moments and Joe Hendry getting some cool stuff, when he was still with us."

Nemeth went on to outline his view of potential future interactions between the two promotions and set boundaries for his own involvement as the recognised champion of TNA. "So all of those moments can still happen, and they will when the time is right. It would be great to be represented out there, but also, I’m super busy right now. And I am not interested in doing NXT as the [TNA] World Champion and Tag Team Champion. But down the line, I would love to see more of an interaction if we continue that relationship because it was really fruitful for both sides."

Nemeth’s comments leave open the possibility of future crossover activity if the relationship between WWE and TNA continues, with the timing of renewed exchanges to be determined between the promotions.
