Nilakshika de Silva ruled out of Asian Games with fractured finger

Nilakshika de Silva has been ruled out of the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya after suffering a fractured finger, the country's cricket board (SLC) said on September 17, 2026. The board said the decision is a blow to Sri Lanka's hopes of a women's cricket medal at the Games.

The middle-order batter was Sri Lanka's top scorer at the Women's Asia Cup and helped the team reach the final of the Twenty20 tournament. Sri Lanka lost that final to India on Sunday.

SLC confirmed the fracture as the reason for ruling de Silva out of the Aichi-Nagoya Games.

Spinner-allrounder Dewmi Vihanga is also unavailable after suffering a knee injury before the Asia Cup, the board said.

Sri Lanka enter the Asian Games as one of the top seeds in the eight-team knockout tournament.

Sri Lanka's bid for a medal begins against Malaysia on Friday. They will be without de Silva and Dewmi Vihanga for that opening match.
