Nishad Kumar takes men's long jump T47 gold at Asian Para Games in Nagoya

Nishad Kumar won the men's long jump T47 gold at the Asian Para Games in Nagoya on Monday (October 19, 2026), recording a mark of 7.11m. His victory provided India with its first para-athletics gold of the competition.
The 27-year-old had previously taken gold in the high jump T47 at the previous Asian Para Games in China and is a two-time Paralympic silver-medallist. The T47 classification is for athletes with upper limb impairments.
Kumar posted 7.11m on both his third and fifth attempts to secure the title, a result achieved on the opening day of the para-athletics programme. The competition represented his first-ever competitive outing in the long jump.
Omadbek Khasanov of Uzbekistan claimed the silver with a leap of 6.99m, while Mohammadu Safran of Sri Lanka earned bronze with a mark of 6.55m.
Kumar lost his right arm when it was severed by a grass-cutting machine at his family farm in Amb, Himachal Pradesh, when he was six years old.
Kumar is also entered in the high jump T47 event at the ongoing Asian Para Games and will compete in that discipline during the tournament.
