Norris wins Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort as Russell takes sprint and podium

Lando Norris won the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort on 23 August 2026, claiming his second successive victory of the season, while George Russell won Saturday's sprint and finished third in Sunday's race.
Norris's triumph at Zandvoort moved him to fourth in the drivers' standings and left him 83 points behind championship leader Kimi Antonelli. Mercedes made a late driver swap in the grand prix that left Antonelli in second place, and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc applied late pressure to Lewis Hamilton but was unable to pass his team-mate for fourth.
Norris took pole, closed on Antonelli before retaking the lead and then managed the remainder of the race from the front. He topped practice but admitted a mistake in sprint qualifying that damaged his floor and prevented an almost faultless weekend.
Russell converted Saturday's sprint victory into a third-place finish on Sunday, holding off Hamilton to secure the final podium position. His weekend form included an authoritative sprint and enough race pace to finish among the top three despite not winning the main event.
Max Verstappen was sixth in the sprint and seventh in qualifying but crashed out on the opening lap of his home grand prix, his weekend curtailed at the start. The report noted that Red Bull had not given Verstappen the machinery to match the race leaders.
Lance Stroll beat Fernando Alonso in the sprint but then qualified behind him for the grand prix and later retired after damage. In the Haas camp, Bearman was out-qualified by teammate Ocon in both sessions, and his race was effectively ended when the Haas stopped with a technical problem on the formation lap.
Several teams and drivers faced tougher weekends: Williams struggled for pace at Zandvoort and Albon spent the event in the lower reaches of the order, while one competitor's retirement followed late contact with Carlos Sainz, who was penalised for the collision.
The standings after Zandvoort show Norris fourth in the championship, 83 points adrift of leader Kimi Antonelli, while George Russell and Lewis Hamilton sit level on 183 points and are level in second in the drivers' championship standings.
