North Korean anthem mistakenly played for South Korea at Asian Games in Japan

Organisers apologised after the North Korean national anthem was played for the South Korea men's hockey team at the Asian Games in Japan on Friday. South Korea won the match 5-0 against Bangladesh.

Players appeared confused when the incorrect anthem was played, and Yonhap news agency reported that Bangladesh's national anthem was played before South Korea's actual anthem was eventually heard. A stadium announcer apologised for the mistake. The incident took place during the build-up to the Asian Games.

"This is a really serious problem. When we protested, they said, 'We're sorry. It wasn't that it wasn't prepared; there was a mistake on the part of those responsible for playing it'," South Korea coach Min Tae-seok said. "But this is something that simply should never happen."

The build-up to the Asian Games, which officially starts on Saturday, has already seen complaints from teams about the quality and amount of accommodation. Organisers have faced multiple grievances from participating delegations in the days before the opening.

A member of the South Korea basketball team posted a video showing a leaking pipe and a soaked floor in his room, accompanied by the caption: "Please help me." Some teams were also stranded at the airport for up to six hours when they landed this week.

As well as the container huts, thousands of athletes will be staying on board this Italian cruiseliner.

Field hockey at the Asian Games started on Friday and runs until 3 October.
