Odisha FC sign Georgian international Giorgi Aburjania
ISL side Odisha FC have completed the signing of 31-year-old Georgian midfielder Giorgi Aburjania ahead of the 2026-27 Indian Super League season. Aburjania arrives after spending the 2025-26 campaign with Saudi Arabian club Jeddah SC.
Aburjania began his senior career in Georgia with Metalurgi Rustavi before moving on to FC Dila and Lokomotivi Tbilisi. He moved abroad in 2014 to Cypriot club Anorthosis Famagusta and spent two seasons there. In 2016 he signed for Gimnàstic de Tarragona and later joined Sevilla FC, initially playing for the reserve side Sevilla Atlético.
While in Spain he had loan spells with CD Lugo and Real Oviedo and spent the 2019-20 season with FC Twente in the Netherlands. He returned to Spain with FC Cartagena and then moved to Portugal, joining Gil Vicente in 2021. Subsequent stops included Turkish side Hatayspor and Portuguese club AVS.
Aburjania moved to Saudi Arabia to join Jeddah SC in September 2025 and featured for them in the 2025-26 season before agreeing terms with Odisha FC. He is Odisha’s third foreign signing following Manu Molina and Stephen Eze.
At international level Aburjania has represented Georgia at U-17, U-19 and U-21 levels and made his senior debut in March 2016 in a friendly against Kazakhstan. He has earned 39 caps for the Georgia senior team and has scored once. He is described in the club release as a versatile midfielder, comfortable in a deeper role or further forward when required.
Odisha’s summer window has also included domestic moves such as Nihal Sudeesh and Imran Khan from Kerala Blasters and Chennaiyin FC respectively, and the acquisition of Sachin Suresh from Kerala Blasters FC. The club have added Aashir Salim, who previously played for Qatari top tier club Al-Sailiya SC, as well as Arjun MM and Nandhakumar Sekar, while Hugo Boumous, Carlos Delgado and Isak Ralte have departed.
Giorgi Aburjania will join Odisha FC ahead of the 2026-27 Indian Super League season as the club continues assembling its squad for that campaign.
