Orissa High Court stays Hockey India elections

On Friday the Orissa High Court stayed Hockey India’s elections that had been scheduled for December 5. The order was issued while the court was hearing a petition filed by the Hockey Association of Odisha.

The petition challenges a showcause notice issued by Hockey India and contests a proposed reclassification of the Hockey Association of Odisha from Permanent to Associate Member. Hockey India took the reclassification decision at its 120th Executive Meeting on October 6, and the Odisha association has argued the showcause notice was illegal and invalid because the current executive committee’s term had already expired on September 30.

A single-judge bench of Justice R. K. Pattanaik passed the stay order on Friday while hearing the petition.

The report carrying the order was published on November 06, 2026 at 08:25 pm IST from New Delhi.

The stay will remain in place until further orders; the next date of hearing has been listed as December 9.
