Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel consolidated India’s position on a rain-affected second day of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on August 16, 2026, as India closed on 460 for nine in 116 overs.
Persistent rain delayed play on Sunday at the Galle International Stadium, washing away the first session and forcing repeated efforts from the ground staff before the game resumed at 2.35 p.m.; India had begun the day on 288 for two and pushed for quick runs because of the inclement weather.
Padikkal carried his overnight form into the second day, finishing 167 off 230 balls with 15 fours and one six; he advanced past 150 with a whipped four off seamer Asitha Fernando before being stumped off Prabath Jayasuriya.
