Pakistan claim first away Test win in three years with eight-wicket victory in Port-of-Spain

Pakistan completed their first Test win away from home in three years by beating West Indies by eight wickets on day four of the second Test at Queen's Park Oval, Port-of-Spain, to draw the two-match series 1-1.

The result ended a run of eight successive away defeats for Pakistan since their last overseas win in Colombo in July 2023. Since that victory they had lost a three-match series in Australia and two-match series campaigns in South Africa and Bangladesh, while West Indies had taken the first Test in Tarouba.

Scorecard lines for the match read: West Indies 344 (Greaves 73; Sajid 4-85) and 117 (Sajid 4-32, Usman 4-39); Pakistan 387 (Shafique 160*, Babar 88; Warrican 6-112) and 77-2. Pakistan won by eight wickets; series drawn 1-1.

West Indies resumed their second innings on 103-6 overnight after losing three wickets late on day three, leaving them 60 runs in front. They were dismissed for 117 within half an hour on Wednesday, losing their last three wickets with batter Brandon King absent hurt, as spinners Ali Usman (4-39) and Sajid Khan (4-32) shared the bulk of the wickets; Usman, playing in his second Test, claimed two of his scalps on day four.

Chasing 75, Pakistan reached 57-2 by lunch after losing openers Imam-ul-Haq, who was caught by Jason Greaves off Jayden Seales for nine, and Azan Awais, bowled by Shamar Joseph for 18. Abdullah Shafique and captain Babar Azam, who had earlier scored 160 not out and 88 respectively in Pakistan's first innings, both finished unbeaten on 24 as the tourists sealed victory inside 24 overs, completing the chase in the sixth over after the interval.

The match was played as the second Test at Queen's Park Oval, Port-of-Spain, scheduled over five days but concluded on day four.

Pakistan head next to England for a three-match Test series beginning at Headingley on Wednesday, 19 August.
