Paris Saint-Germain signs left back Lucas Digne from Aston Villa on three-year deal

PARIS — Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday evening announced the signing of left back Lucas Digne from Aston Villa on a three-year contract, without disclosing financial terms. French sports daily L'Equipe reported the fee at €10 million ($11.6 million).

Digne, 33, was born in the Paris suburbs and initially joined PSG from Lille in 2013. He moved on to represent Roma and Barcelona before spending eight years in the Premier League with Everton and Aston Villa. The transfer returns the defender to the club he represented earlier in his career.

A left-footed player described in the announcement as energetic with accurate passing, Digne became a France regular under former coach Didier Deschamps. He featured at the recent World Cup, where Les Bleus reached the semifinals, and has 64 caps for his country.

“I am very honoured to be returning to Paris Saint-Germain following the wonderful experience I had here more than 10 years ago," he said. "I am particularly impressed by how the club has developed over the years.”

PSG have also recently strengthened elsewhere in attack, signing France winger Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco.

The club begins its Ligue 1 title defence at home to Rennes on August 23.
