Parsons hat‑trick sees Ireland clinch WXV Global Series Test series over South Africa in Cape Town on 31 October 2026

Beibhinn Parsons scored a hat-trick as Ireland defeated South Africa in Cape Town to seal their WXV Global Series Test series on 31 October 2026. The result completed Ireland's campaign after they followed up last week's win in Cape Town with another six-try display.
Ireland arrived in South Africa having lost their WXV opener to the United States but then beat Japan and South Africa in their remaining WXV matches, and also recorded a standalone Test victory over the United States in Cork. Scott Bemand had urged his squad to match South Africa's physicality after struggles with the hosts' power in the previous meeting.
The match began with Unam Tose touching down from a line-out drive in the second minute to give South Africa the early lead. Erin King and Beibhinn Parsons then crossed for Ireland either side of a yellow card to Alichia Arries (sin‑bin, 16), shifting momentum briefly in the visitors' favour.
South Africa rallied through sustained pressure and a driving maul finished by Sizophila Solontsi, scored after Ireland scrum-half Aoibheann Reilly was sin‑binned for an illegal clearout prior to the touchdown. At half‑time Ireland left the pitch with frustrations as the hosts had tightened the contest.
Early in the second half Vainah Ubisi forced her way over the line to put South Africa ahead 19-14 with around 20 minutes remaining. Ireland then responded when Parsons surged through for her second try to restore parity.
Ten minutes from time Jakkie Cilliers was shown a yellow card for a dangerous tackle on Dannah O'Brien, and seconds after Cilliers left the field Aoife Dalton sprinted through a gap for a converted try that put Ireland two scores clear. Parsons completed her treble later in the closing stages and Dalton added a late score to seal the series for Ireland.
Parsons now has 29 tries in 40 Ireland caps. Match scoring summary: South Africa tries – Tose, Solontsi, Ubisi; conversion – Cilliers. Ireland tries – King, Parsons 3, Dalton 2; conversions – O'Brien 4.
