Parthiv Patel's decision to opt out has prompted speculation within the BCCI that Pragyan Ojha may continue as interim chairman of the selection committee and that VVS Laxman, head of the board’s Centre of Excellence (CoE), may have a greater say in selection affairs, the Times of India reported on 15 October 2026, with the ODI World Cup less than a year away.
