Pat Murphy criticises ‘horseshit’ Yankees after Brewers clinch World Series

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy was recorded making a disparaging comment about the New York Yankees after celebrating the Brewers clinching the World Series on Wednesday night. The remark was directed at Jake Bauers during the post-celebration exchange.
A video emerged showing Murphy speaking to Bauers in which the manager tells the Brewers’ soon to be a free agent: “You’re going to be a rich fucker. Just remember when you were on that horseshit Yankees team and you guys were all playing for yourself? Just remember, say, ‘This is the way we used to do it.’” Bauers had played for the Yankees in 2023 before he was traded to the Brewers.
The Yankees finished fourth in the AL East in 2023, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Bauers did little to help them that year. He batted .202 with 12 home runs in 84 games in the 2023 season.
Bauers has produced stronger numbers with Milwaukee: in the 2026 regular season he hit .266 with 26 home runs and an OPS of .874, all career bests. He was also named the National League Championship Series MVP. The Brewers swept the Los Angeles Dodgers to reach the World Series for the first time since 1982.
Murphy is not the first person to deride the Yankees during a World Series. When the Dodgers overwhelmed the Yankees in the 2024 edition, Los Angeles veteran Joe Kelly said New York were “sloppy” and “can’t make a play”, while his teammate Miguel Rojas called out their “lazy” defense.
Murphy also had another excellent season. He is the favorite to be named the NL Manager of the Year for a third season in a row.
