PCB sets PSL 12 for March 18–May 2, 2027, again overlapping IPL

At a PSL Governing Council meeting in London on September 1, the Pakistan Cricket Board finalised the dates for the 12th Pakistan Super League and confirmed on Thursday that PSL 12 will be played from March 18 to May 2, 2027. The PCB said the window places the tournament in the same March–May period as the Indian Premier League, marking a third straight year of overlap between the two competitions.
All eight franchises will return for PSL 12, the PCB confirmed, with those teams competing in the second consecutive season after the league expanded from six sides in 2026. The decision to lock the dates followed consultations at the Governing Council meeting in London, which was attended by owners and representatives of all eight franchises. The PCB said the March–May placement again puts the PSL in direct competition with the IPL for players, audiences, broadcast attention and commercial interest. The PSL has continued to grow as Pakistan’s premier domestic cricket property while the IPL remains the world’s biggest franchise T20 competition by commercial reach, the PCB statement added.
The two leagues already shared the March–May window in 2025 and 2026, and last year’s calendars heavily overlapped: the 2026 PSL ran from March 26 to May 3, while the 2026 IPL stretched from March 28 to May 31. Current IPL 2027 listings have that tournament scheduled between March 10 and May 15, although the BCCI's final schedule is yet to be confirmed, meaning another extended overlap is likely around the March–May period.
The PCB described the PSL as entering the 2027 season with momentum after structural changes introduced in 2026. The 2026 edition expanded to eight teams and replaced the player draft with the league’s first-ever auction, developments the board cited as driving interest and commercial activity.
Peshawar Zalmi were the 2026 champions, defeating debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen in the final, the PCB noted, and the title match at Gaddafi Stadium drew a record crowd of 32,461. Those outcomes were highlighted by the board as evidence of increased engagement with the tournament among fans and stakeholders.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi commented on the league’s recent progress, saying: "HBL PSL 11 showed the world what this league is capable of – thrilling moments that had the whole nation transfixed, record crowds, record broadcasts. HBL PSL 12 will raise the bar further," Naqvi said. "We are committed to delivering another outstanding season and look forward to seeing all eight franchises compete once again for the title," he added.
PSL CEO Salman Naseer set out the next stages of roster and competition preparation, saying: "Last season changed what people expect from this league and we intend to meet every one of those expectations in 2027. Today’s announcement is only the first step, direct signings, retention, the trade window and the auction will each bring their own excitement in the months ahead," Naseer said.
With the dates now locked in, attention will turn to player retention, direct signings, trades and the auction before the eight franchises begin their preparations for another season — one that will once again unfold alongside the IPL.
