S-GAME revealed new gameplay footage for action RPG Phantom Blade Zero during a dedicated PlayStation State of Play on August 18, 2026, and confirmed the game will launch on October 29, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and PC. The presentation showcased handcrafted maps, the title’s “Kung-fu Punk” combat, multiple difficulty settings and other core systems.

Phantom Blade Zero is not a fully open-world or a strictly linear experience; instead the developers said the game comprises eight interconnected regions built from handcrafted levels that connect naturally to form a single seamless world. The world map is hand-painted and inspired by traditional Chinese ink wash art, and areas contain secrets and optional content such as hidden enemies, side quests and valuable treasures. Players can unlock locations and use a fast-travel system called Bells to return to previously visited areas.

Combat was presented as the central focus, with dynamic boss encounters emphasised during the State of Play. The developers said enemies do not follow set attack patterns but engage the player in real time, adapting to specific attacks they have observed and punishing those they have not. The presentation also noted that the probability of encountering a boss increases on Hellwalker difficulty.

The game’s setting and fight choreography are described by the studio as “Kung-fu Punk,” a blend of traditional Chinese martial arts with steampunk technology and body modification, and the combat footage shown was fast-paced. S-GAME demonstrated varied attack styles and boss mechanics within that aesthetic during the reveal.

Phantom Blade Zero will include 55 weapons in total, split into 30 primary and 25 secondary weapons, and each weapon is said to possess its own identity and playstyle. Players can unlock new combat skills, improve weapons, reset the skill tree anytime and build differently for every run; weapons can also be upgraded to grant unique combat forms and exclusive techniques. The game offers three standard difficulty options and a special “66 Days” mode in which the player has 66 lives to complete the game.

The developer confirmed the October 29, 2026 launch date for PlayStation 5 and PC, making that the next confirmed milestone for Phantom Blade Zero ahead of release.
