At Gamescom 2026, PlayGround Games confirmed that the main story of its upcoming Fable reboot will run about 20 hours. The update was delivered during a gameplay reveal and accompanying Q&A at the event.

The Fable reboot, developed by PlayGround Games with Xbox Game Studios, is presented as an action RPG that places emphasis on its main story and exploration rather than an extended open-world runtime. Developers contrasted the title with modern open-world RPGs by noting the reboot appears to be shorter in total main-story length.

During a Gamescom 2026 Q&A session from Polygon Games, Associate Game Director Will Kennedy said that the game has about 15-20 hours of first-person story mode, with an additional 15-20 hours of side missions and open-world play.

The studio said players who pursue all side content can expect roughly double the core playtime, allowing those who want to do everything outside the main story to enjoy a much longer journey in Albion.

The developers pointed out that the game’s life simulation systems are able to keep players engaged for much longer. "This could be a game for a player who likes to interact with NPCs, build relationships, wander around and make decisions that impact their reputation for hours if they want to."

A social post stated: "Fable will take about 20 hours to complete, and around double that including all side quests and activities➡️ https://t.co/5HEPUyhYLT#Fable #Xbox #PS5 pic.twitter.com/DqdqwW7jEL".

After some delays, the game is now finally releasing on February 27, 2027, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. With a new reboot and action RPG game made by PlayGround Games, fans are pretty excited for Fable and to explore Albion.
