PM Modi to receive India’s 2026 Asian Games gold-medal cricket team at his residence on October 15

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet the Indian men's cricket team that secured the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games at his residence on October 15, Indian Express journalist Devendra Pandey has confirmed. The delegation is expected to include captain Shreyas Iyer, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Sanju Samson and other members of the gold-winning side.
India defended their Asian Games title by beating Pakistan by 19 runs in the final at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, posting 211 for six in their innings. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored 15 and Abhishek Sharma made 61 as India began strongly, with Sharma producing the tournament’s big-occasion half-century described in the match report.
Shreyas Iyer contributed 21 and Ishan Kishan 20, combining for a 35-run stand for the fourth wicket, before Shivam Dube added 27 and Tilak Varma finished unbeaten on 51 to take India to their total. Varma’s 51 not out closed the innings and helped set the target of 212 for Pakistan.
Pakistan’s chase started with an opening partnership of 33 between captain Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat, who scored 23. India then struck three quick wickets to reduce Pakistan to 39 for three, after which Hasan Nawaz and Saim Ayub (29) put on an 87-run stand for the fourth wicket.
Hasan Nawaz reached a half-century and his partnership with Saim Ayub carried Pakistan deep into the chase, taking the contest to the final over, but Pakistan finished on 192 for six and fell 19 runs short. The result secured the gold medal for India at the Games.
The reports state the October 15 meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence is part of a series of recognitions for Indian athletes who won medals at the Asian Games, with the men’s cricket team among the gold medallists. Devendra Pandey is the journalist cited as confirming the arrangement.
This is not the first occasion Mr Modi has received an Indian cricket side at his residence; after Rohit Sharma and his teammates won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Modi invited that team to his residence and greeted them following their triumph, a victory the report notes came after 11 years without an ICC title for India.
