Pradosh Ranjan Paul scores 136 as Tamil Nadu beat Uttarakhand by an innings and 66 runs
Pradosh Ranjan Paul scored 136 for Tamil Nadu against Uttarakhand on Tuesday in the early stages of the 2026-27 domestic season, steering his side to an innings and 66-run victory. The knock came after Paul had made 58 in Tamil Nadu’s season opener against Rajasthan.
The 25-year-old has begun the season with back-to-back notable contributions and said completing a century provided personal relief after several missed conversions. He described the hundred as important given recent endings to his innings and the start he had made earlier in the campaign.
“Definitely, it was very important. In my last three First Class games coming into the match, I was getting out in the 80s; at the start of the season, I got out for [58]. So, that was obviously on my mind: if I get set this game, I’ll try to make it [big],” Pradosh said on Monday.
Paul said his dismissals had come from impulsive shots rather than being outplayed by opponents and that awareness shaped his approach in the century. “It wasn’t the bowlers who were getting me out. It was that one rash shot which got me out. So, I was very aware when I was batting that I wasn’t going to gift my wicket and was going to play on the merit of the ball.”
Typically associated with flashy drives and an aggressive style, Paul curtailed his attacking instincts against spin in this innings and targeted scoring with the turn rather than the off-side. That tactical restraint formed part of his plan while he was set at the crease.
“I think it all sums up to mental discipline. Especially when your team needs you to do a certain role, you need to put the team ahead. I did the same because I knew I should value my wicket. I was the one who got set yesterday. So, subconsciously, I was thinking that I should bat as long as possible,” Pradosh explained.
