Pragg only Indian in FIDE top 10; Nihal Sarin reaches career-best No. 19

Pragg was the only Indian player in the world’s top 10 in the FIDE rankings published on 2026-11-02.

Nihal Sarin broke into the world’s top 20 for the first time, reaching a career-best World No. 19 with 2720 rating points after winning individual gold at the European Chess Club Cup.

India also has 13 players in the Open Top 100 and 11 in the Women's Top 100, while remaining the world's second-ranked chess federation across all three categories.
